May 05, 2001 Our Lady of Ostrobrama Parish Brockton, MA
Most Reverend William Murphy Archdiocese of Boston 2121 Commonwealth Avenue Brighton, MA 02135 RE: parish closing Your Excellency, We the parishioners at Our Lady of Ostrobrama in Brockton would like the opportunity to meet with you at a hearing in which the fate of our church would be determined. What we would like to discuss is the necessary steps to continue mass services in Polish at the church between your Excellency and a panel of our constituents. We understand that this is a difficult decision since the amount of people attending the mass has been relatively small, but well over one hundred people declared have spoken in interest for a Polish mass continue. Additionally, we have been in contact with a priest at Our Lady of Czestochowa church and he has expressed interest in commuting in order to conduct mass here in Brockton, for the next six or twelve months. A similar situation occurred 15 years ago in South Boston, when attendance was very low, because of the lack of a Polish-born priest. Today, parishioners are proud of the accomplishments and prosperity of their parish, due in large part to the efforts of their Polish-born priests. We are hopeful that we will be able to similarly rejoice and mass can once again take place indefinitely at our parish in Brockton. Since one of the priests of Our Lady of Czestochowa is eager and willing to work at the Brockton parish, we would like to ask your Excellency to give the Polish people a chance to have mass in Polish. Thank you and God Bless.
Yours in Christ, Undersigned:

A P E L Rodacy, Bracia i Siostry w Chrystusie, Zwracamy się do Was z bardzo ważnym apelem. Może nie wiecie że w Waszym sąsiedztwie, w Brocktonie, istnieje polski kościół pod wezwaniem Matki Boskiej Ostrobrambskiej. Kościół ten został zbudowany w 1931 roku rękami emigrantów z Polski i Litwy. Teraz, po śmierci księdza proboszcza ś.p. Jana Missy, naszemu kosciolowi grozi zamkniecie a parafii likwidacja. My parafianie, staramy się wszelkimi sposobami uratować nasz kościół. Pragniemy ażeby dalsze jego istnienie w Archidiecezji Bostonskiej przyczyniało się do krzewienia naszych bogatych polskich religijnych i narodowych tradycji wsrod tutejszej Polonii i spolecznosci katolickiej. Zwracamy się z gorącą prośbą do Was, Rodacy, wesprzyjcie nas w naszych staraniach! Bardzo potrzebujemy jak największej frekwencji w naszym kościele. Znaczne zwiekszenie liczby parafian jest niezbednym warunkiem dalszego istnienia naszej parafii. Zapraszamy Was na Mszę Sw. w każdą niedzielę o godz. 11:00 do kosciola Matki Boskiej Ostrobramskiej w Brocktonie. A P P E A L Brothers and Sisters in Christ, We would like to appeal for your help. Our Lady of Ostrabrama Church 696 North Main St. Brockton, MA 02301 Tel.: 508-526-4270 A P P E A L Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
The parishioners of Our Lady of Ostrabrama Church in Brockton turn to you with a plea to support our efforts to save our Church from being closed. Our beautiful House of God was built by our forefathers and has served the Polish community of Brockton and the surrounding area for decades. Our Church has been a great source of comfort and support for our wonderful Polish traditions in our immigrant community. Unfortunately came the sad test of our faith. Following the years of great service and the death of our parish priest, Monsignor John Missa, our parish is under the threat of having its doors closed for good. But we, the parishioners will not lose heart or faith. We truly believe that saving our Church for ourselves and for future generations can be achieved! We are doing everything possible to revive our parish and avoid its closing. We have boundless energy and many great ideas, but there are too few of us to accomplish the goal. The main and essential condition of the continued existence of our parish is to considerably increase the number of our parishioners – but we cannot do this without your help. We turn to you to join us and fill our Church with your presence. We hope the future of the Polish Church in America would be of concern to anyone with even a bit of Polish ancestry. With your help, we can save our Church and do great things for God and the community. Perhaps other parishes in the same heartbreaking situation will follow our example, and the distressing trend of closing Catholic churches will come to an end. We cordially invite you to attend the Holy Mass held every Sunday at 11:00 am. Please bring your family and friends to help save our Church. Please pass this information on to others.
We are counting on you! We are waiting for you! We need you! We thank you in advance for your understanding, help and support. Our Lady of Ostrabrama pray for us! Mother of Mercy, we plead ourselves under your protection.

Drodzy Bracia i Siostry w Chrystusie, Rodacy! My, parafianie Kościoła Matki Boskiej Ostrobramskiej w Brocktonie, zwracamy się do Was z apelem i gorącą prośbą o wsparcie naszych wysiłków w celu uratowania naszego kościoła przed zamknięciem. Czekamy na Was! Liczymy na Was!

STOWARZYSZENIE WETERANOW ARMII POLSKIEJ W AMERYCE Polish Army Veterans Association of America, Inc. 612 Dorchester Ave, South Boston, MA 02127 FOUNDED 1921 INCORPORATED 1935 DISTRICT VIII December 31, 2001 His Eminence Bernard Cardinal Law Archbishop of Boston Brighton, MA 02135 Your Eminence, The Polish Army Veterans District VIII is very concerned with your decision to close the Polish Parish of Our Lady of Ostrabrama in Brockton, Ma. Due to the important role the Parish is playing in our community we ask for your support and help to keep it open. We believe that you can change the decision taken at the meeting on December 8, 2001. Our organization believes that the Our Lady of Ostrabrama Church in Brockton still fulfills its very important mission in the religious life of many of our fellow veterans, their families as well as other people living in the Brockton area. Polish language is the first language in which we learned to pray, and would like to stay praying in it at all costs. Furthermore we would also like to see our children continuing our tradition in going to a Polish-speaking parish just like their parents and grandparents did before them. I am sure that our efforts to keep this church open will not go unnoticed by Your Eminence; we have faith that your decision will be reconsidered and know that our church is here to stay for years to come. _________________________ _________________________ Adam Z Gustowski, Secretary Krzysztof Planeta, Commandante

CARDINAL LAW
What kind of mothers gave you birth? On what kind of mother’s milk were you fed?
Instead of being good Shepards, care about your Church, and spread the Catholic Faith, you are destroying the Church with your own hands. You are destroying the Lord’s Harvest as the weeds destroy the wheat on the farmer’s field. You are a hundred times worse that Judas! For you Jesus does not exist. You have betrayed and crucified Him for the second time by hiding the truth to protect yourselves and your brother’s pedophiles. Now you are selling churches to pay for your sins with people’s money. You broke all Ten God’s Commandments and especially the First One – YOUR GOD IS MONEY!!!
We ask you today, when are you going to STOP closing and plundering ethnic churches? How many more Houses of God will you be closing and selling? Only those with thievery in their hearts would be so quick to take what does not belong to them. Ethnic churches should belong to their parishioners, poor immigrants who came to America to seek refuge from oppression. They built their churches for their own hard-earned money. The Church was the most important to them since it represented their faith and culture. The United States of America is the country of immigrants and that is what makes America such a great and powerful country. In its Constitution the freedom of speech and religion are guaranteed giving people the right to pray in their own languages. However, you, Cardinal Law, Bishop Malone, and Father Manning, are like invaders, you rip the churches from their parishioners, close them and now steal what is not yours. This is what STALIN and now the TALIBAN have done. Even Hitler during World War II did not close churches in occupied territories.
Cardinal Law, you and those like you, all have dirty hands. Your mouth spout lies when you preach from the altars, because you do not practice what you preach any more. When Judas betrayed Our Lord Jesus for 30 pieces of silver, and later realized what he did, he at least had the courage to hang himself. If you, Cardinal were a man of honor, then you would have the courage and strength of character to retire or resign.
Now it is the time for the Catholic Church to heal itself from all the lies, hurt and deception. You are the obstacle to this healing process. If you consider yourself a true Priest then LEAVE! Your resignation will bring peace and stability to the Archdiocese of Boston.
Cardinal Law, re-open the OUR LADY OF OSRTRABRAMA CHURCH in Brockton and return all the sacred symbols of our faith that have been removed from inside. THIS IS OUR APPEAL TO YOU!!! Parishioners of Our Lady of Ostrabrama www.ourladyostrabrama.org
